Here’s a look at the key people behind AMP Architecture. While this isn’t our full team, it highlights the leadership guiding our projects, process, and overall vision.

At AMP Architecture, we believe great design starts with a thoughtful, intentional process. Rooted on the North Fork of Long Island, our practice is deeply connected to the character, history, and landscape of the East End. proudly serving the North Fork, South Fork, the Hamptons, New York City, and select regions in Texas. We approach each project as a unique opportunity to shape spaces that are responsive, refined, and resonant. Whether working on a coastal home, a retail environment, or a resilient community space, we partner closely with clients, consultants, and communities to explore ideas deeply and deliver design solutions grounded in both vision and technical precision. From concept to construction, our team is committed to design that enhances everyday experience and stands the test of time.

 

Anthony Portillo, RA, LEED AP – Principal Architect

Anthony Portillo is a licensed architect, energy efficiency consultant, and the founder of AMP Architecture. Raised on the North Fork of Long Island, Anthony developed an early appreciation for craftsmanship, sustainability, and the built environment—values that continue to shape his approach to architecture today. With over 20 years of experience across architecture, construction management, building inspection, and energy consulting, Anthony brings a uniquely well-rounded perspective to every project. He is licensed to practice in both New York and Texas and is known for his deep technical fluency, regulatory expertise, and commitment to high-performance, resilient design. Before founding AMP, Anthony held leadership roles in both public and private sector initiatives, contributing to energy and housing programs across the region. His work has involved everything from conceptual design and code compliance to post-construction inspections and workforce training. He’s also authored key operational protocols and helped set standards in quality assurance for large-scale programs. Anthony holds a B.S. in Architecture from SUNY Buffalo and a range of advanced credentials, including LEED Accredited Professional, BPI Certified Building Analyst and Envelope Professional, and ABAA Certified Auditor. Grounded in his North Fork roots and driven by a passion for sustainable design, Anthony leads AMP Architecture with a focus on thoughtful planning, technical excellence, and community-centered solutions.

 

Daniel Marra - President of Marrcon Development Corp.

Daniel is the President and Owner of MarrCon Development Corp., and is a licensed General Contractor in Nassau, Suffolk and NYC counties. He has nearly two decades of experience in the construction industry and has been responsible for the management and construction process—from start to finish—for multiple construction projects in New York City and Long Island. Prior to MarrCon, Daniel was a Project Manager with Turner Construction Company for over nine years, providing construction management services to various owners on residential and commercial projects in New York City. He has a BS degree in Construction Management from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, MA (2007).

 

Mathew Smith, RA, LEED AP - Design Director

Mathew Smith is a licensed architect and LEED Accredited Professional with over 15 years of experience leading diverse architectural projects throughout the New York metropolitan area and beyond. As Design Director at AMP Architecture, he oversees a broad range of work—from concept to construction—infusing every project with a commitment to design excellence, technical precision, and client-centered collaboration. Mathew holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the New York Institute of Technology and studied abroad at Tongji University in Shanghai. He is NCARB certified, allowing him to practice across multiple jurisdictions, and demonstrates his commitment to sustainable design through his LEED AP credential. Combining innovative design thinking with a strong foundation in construction and project delivery, Mathew brings seasoned leadership, creativity, and a collaborative spirit to every endeavor.

 

Brooke Epperson - Design Director

Brooke is the Design Director at AMP Architecture and has been with the firm since its inception. A proud graduate of Mattituck High School, she went on to earn her architecture degree from NYIT Manhattan, graduating with honors as a Magna Cum Laude and being inducted into Tau Sigma Delta, the National Honor Society for Architecture and Allied Arts. At AMP, Brooke leads projects from concept through permitting and into construction, ensuring a seamless and thoughtful design process at every stage. She is known for her ability to translate each homeowner’s vision into built form, using creativity and imagination as her guiding principles. Her commitment to design excellence and client satisfaction has helped shape AMP’s reputation for integrity, innovation, and beautifully crafted spaces.

 

David Crawford - QA/QC Manager

David is the QA/QC Manager and heavily involved in performing quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) across all AMP design documents. He also works to create efficient and robust structural design solutions, sanitary site plans, and to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and project specifications. David has a strong interest in community development and a passion for sustainability.  Prior to joining AMP, he was a program coordinator for one of the largest non-profit solar installers in the country, built trails in Washington State’s North Cascades National Park, and worked with farmers and entrepreneurs as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Benin, West Africa.  David holds a degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Iowa.

 

Kyle Edstrom - Senior Architectural Designer

Kyle is a Senior Architectural Designer at AMP Architecture, bringing over two decades of experience in residential, commercial, and restoration design. Since joining AMP Architecture in 2015, Kyle has specialized in the design development and coordination of all project phases-from concept to construction administration. His work includes extensive involvement in post–Superstorm Sandy restoration and reconstruction efforts, ensuring that projects meet local, state, and federal regulations while maintaining the integrity and character of the surrounding communities. Kyle studied Drafting & Design Technology at Suffolk County Community College and holds a professional certification in Structural Design Loads in Accordance with the ASCE-7 Standard. His multidisciplinary background and meticulous approach to design make him a vital contributor to AMP Architecture’s commitment to delivering thoughtful, compliant, and enduring architectural solutions.

 

Annette Gonzalez - Senior Architectural Designer

Annette is a seasoned architectural designer with a Master’s Degree in Architecture and City Planning from the University of Texas at San Antonio. With over six years of experience as a Senior Architect Designer at AMP, she brings a deep understanding of urban environments, design innovation, and thoughtful placemaking to every project. Prior to returning to San Antonio, Annette spent seven years in New York City, where she developed a strong appreciation for dense urban form, cultural diversity, and the dynamic interplay between architecture and the built environment. Her background in both architecture and city planning allows her to approach design challenges with a holistic, future-forward mindset.

 

Doug Scharadin - Operations Manager

Doug is the operations manager at amp architecture, supporting architectural and construction teams through all phases of the design and permitting process. With nearly a decade of experience in both New York and Texas, Doug specializes in expediting permit approvals, coordinating with building departments, and managing submission documentation across multiple jurisdictions. He has played a key role in large-scale residential rehabilitation projects, including NYC’s Hurricane Sandy Build It Back program, and provided support in cost estimating, construction scheduling, and agency response coordination. Known for his attention to detail and proactive communication, Doug ensures that project documentation is accurate, timely, and aligned with local building codes and client objectives.
